Precedents make perfect

Precedents are history. Without deep analysis of history we wouldn’t know where to go or how to get there. This is true in both micro and macro scales. The legal system is built on, and evolves, based on precedents. They serve us personally and professionally, provide learning and guidance and, often, a new point of view. So, how do precedents apply in event management? They are integral. Each event we’ve created over the past 10 years has been crafted from key learnings from previous events. We’ve never (with the exception of our first event), started from scratch. Our detailed tracking of each post-event summary has served us well. It’s a neatly packaged source of event intelligence that provides the basis to formulate our event strategies. Each summary includes all event details (date, timing, venue, agenda, event flow, number of people, etc.), photos, copies of all creative, detailed budget and, most importantly, an objective summary of what was done well and what needed improvement. Regular review of our precedents helps to swiftly and confidently answer client questions and prepare for innovative new projects. Precedents are powerful planning tools. Remember - there is a science to event management and those who effectively understand and adhere to that scientific process will succeed.
